1 Communication a new blog to communicate with local constituents

Thank you to everyone in the Lane who voted for me. I will do my best to represent the interests of all residents in The Lane.

I have set up a new blog where I will post updates of the work I am involved in as a Councillor.

You will find the blog by clicking on the attached link

2 Casework

Representing The Lane by becoming a newly elected councillor is very important. The Council recognise this and put on a compulsory and comprehensive training programme for new councillors so that we are able to direct any concerns from local constituents to the relevant service head.

Since becoming a Councillor in May my casework has been varied ad included

• Concerns raised by many local residents about the speed of the cars hurtling down Maxted Road. I am talking with council cabinet members in order to find a way forward.
• Concerns on the expansion of primary school places in The Lane from a local community activist, addressed by the Director of Strategy for Children and Adults Services.
• Local businesses have raised built environment questions which are being dealt with by relevant council officers
• Concerns about the level of noise at weekends by parties being held across The Lane Ward. Residents are working with the council and relevant proprietors to find a solution.
• I have a number of individual repairs and personal inquires which are on going and where I am seeking the advice of relevant council experts in order to conclude.

3 Surgery
Many concerns have been raised with me through email, telephone and social media. If anyone would prefer to have a face to face meeting a once a month surgery will take place at 7.00pm on the fourth Thursday of every month with the exception of August and December. These will take place at the Residents Hall on Phillip Walk. See attached publicity.
4 Chair of Scrutiny Sub Committee
I was elected Chair of the Education and Children’s Services Scrutiny Committee at the June Council Assembly.

I have set up a Facebook page for the Education and Children’s Services Scrutiny Committee. I hope it will make the Committee’s thinking and subsequent reviews as transparent and engaging as possible. It should also help the Council lead the way in combining scrutiny with social media.
